Tutoring Subject: Navigating the Social World: What We Can Learn from Infants and Children
Course Summary: This course is a summary of several topics of human cognition and developmental science at Harvard University. In this course, students will be introduced to the cutting-edge research at Harvard, including infant visual perception and cognition, intergroup stereotypes, prejudice and discrimination, human altruism, folk theories of the society. Students will also be given an opportunity to independently lead a mini-research project, gaining hands-on research experience, including coding and running psychological experiments, collecting and analyzing data, designing, and presenting posters. Additionally, the course will include professional development sessions, covering key aspects of scientific inquiry, such as literature review, data visualization, and scientific writing. Upon completion of this course, students should acquire (a) comprehensive knowledge about behavioral science and human cognition, especially the development of social cognition, (b) intensive research experience of conducting psychological research, (c) critical thinking and scientific writing skills.
